Glass-gems from the National Archaeological Museum in Aquileia: a PIXE/PIGE compositional study

Abstract A total of 100 investigated coloured/colourless opaque and transparent glass-gems the National Archaeological Museum Aquileia (Italy) have been analyzed with a non-invasive approach, at AGLAE facility (Centre de Recherche et Restauration des Musées France - C2RMF), located Palais du Louvre in Paris (France). The collection represents “unicum” terms number finds richness typologies. Almost all were discovered Roman site Aquileia, known as an important center glass working, are dated between 2nd century BCE to CE. Their safe provenance from city cemeteries their number, offer unparalleled statistical sample. Most objects belong natron-glass group. families HIMT made plant ashes also represented. This compositional variety supports hypothesis that was working age.
